How to make a word search with your own words.

Enter your word list, then choose Create puzzle. This free word search generator places every accepted word in your chosen grid and fills the remaining spaces with letters. It does not replace your words with a dictionary list. Repeated entries are counted once, and the result shows the complete word bank.

Open Puzzle options for a title, a rectangular size from 2 to 30 rows and columns, and a direction setting. Easy uses only left-to-right and top-to-bottom placement. All 8 also permits backwards and diagonal words. Each answer stays on one straight line; it cannot bend or wrap around an edge.

The grid size is a real constraint. A word must fit in an allowed direction, and crowded lists may not fit together. If a complete puzzle cannot be made, you get a clear message rather than a bigger grid or a partially missing list. Shorten the list, choose a larger size or try a new arrangement. A failed arrangement is not proof that no arrangement could ever work.

Use Show answer key to outline the placed letters and read each word’s start and end coordinates. Random filler can accidentally form additional copies of a word; the key records the intended placements. Review and proofread your puzzle before distributing it. New arrangement runs only when you choose it and keeps the same words and size. Arrangements may differ from the worked examples below.

Print puzzle opens your browser’s print dialog. The printable sheet contains the title, grid and word bank, with no ads or tool controls. To print a separate solution, select Print answer key instead of puzzle. Your browser may offer Save as PDF; paper size, margins and printer settings remain under your control.

Use 1–40 single A–Z words of 2–30 letters, separated by commas, spaces or new lines. Your words stay in your browser. This maker does not support phrases with preserved spaces, accents, images or uploaded files. The tool runs locally without an account or saved puzzle URL. For an existing puzzle, use the word search solver to locate words in its grid instead. For loose tiles rather than a grid, use the word finder from letters.

Three puzzles you can make.

Questions about making a word search.

Can I create and print a word search for free?

Yes. Add your own words and create a puzzle without an account or payment. Print the puzzle or its answer key from your browser. If your browser supports Save as PDF in its print dialog, you can save a printable copy that way too.

Can I choose the grid size and difficulty?

Choose 2–30 rows and 2–30 columns in Puzzle options. Easy places words right and down; All 8 adds backwards and diagonal directions. Word length, list size and grid dimensions also affect difficulty. The tool does not assign a school grade or guarantee a difficulty level.

Why could my words not fit?

A word may be too long for the selected directions, or several words may compete for the same spaces. The maker uses a bounded arrangement search so it cannot freeze your browser indefinitely. It reports a failure without dropping words or changing the dimensions. Try a larger grid or fewer words; a failed attempt does not prove the list is impossible.

Are my words uploaded or turned into public pages?

No. The words and title are handled locally in your browser, and creating a puzzle does not generate an indexable puzzle page. This maker has no upload, cloud storage or share-by-link feature. Printing is handled by your browser and the destination you choose in its print dialog.
